This research revealed that women who wore heals 2 ½ in or higher, tend to come down harder on the forefoot, which is where many of the deformities occur. Dr. Franklin’s research also showed that women in high heels have to use their hips instead of their ankles when they lose their balance, which happens a great deal more often than when they are wearing flats.

Other studies also reveal that the altered posture of walking in high heels puts excess force on the inside of the knee – a common site of osteoarthritis among women
